Paul's journey in the maritime industry spans over a decade, during which he has served as an Officer in Charge of Navigational Watch (OIC-NW). Throughout his career, he has encountered and navigated through various challenges, including the implementation of Electronic Chart Display and Information Systems (ECDIS) and updating software. Remarkably, Paul's familiarity with ECDIS dates back to his time as a 3rd Mate when the technology was not yet fully integrated into onboard operations. This early exposure has endowed him with a deep understanding of the intricacies involved, enabling him to stay ahead of the curve and provide invaluable guidance to his peers and mentees.
In 2020, Paul expanded his impact by launching the STEP-UP MASTERCLASS, aimed at aspiring Officers in Charge of Navigational Watch. His comprehensive approach to training goes beyond theoretical knowledge, providing practical insights and real-world scenarios to prepare his students for the challenges of maritime leadership.
Over the course of six contracts as a 2nd Mate, Paul observed a critical gap in the training provided to OICs, even after completion of generic and specific ECDIS courses. Recognizing the importance of comprehensive and practical education in maritime navigation, Paul made it his mission to address these deficiencies. He committed himself to mentoring and supporting fellow OICs, sharing his knowledge and experiences to ensure their readiness and proficiency in utilizing ECDIS and other essential tools effectively.
Paul's dedication to improving maritime education and training extends beyond the classroom. As an entrepreneur, he leverages his expertise to develop innovative solutions and services tailored to the needs of the industry. Through his coaching initiatives, Paul aims to empower aspiring seafarers and maritime professionals, equipping them with the skills and confidence needed to excel in their careers.
